The Khyber Society aims to be the world's premier Pashtun organization.
The Society is dedicated to assisting and educating the Pashtun Diaspora
while preserving and evolving their culture and 6000 years old creed of
Pashtunwali.
Mission Statement
The number of misconceptions and misrepresentations in the press
and public consciousness about the Pashtuns, the Khyber Society will work to
educate the global public of them dispel half truths about them and foster new
relations for them. In doing so, the Khyber Society will provide a credible and
needed Pashtun voice in western civilization and the United States of America.
For
the entire Pashtun's community's welfare, the Khyber Society will focus on
cultural and social issues, Peace and other humanitarian causes of historical importance, the Khyber Society will assist in the protection and preservation of Pashtun holy sites, artifacts, ancient manuscripts and cemeteries. The Khyber Society long-term plans call for sponsoring archaeological excavations, field trips maintaining a permanent archive on
Pashtun history and ethnic Afghan genealogy, and other historical and research
based programs.
By enhancing the quality of study and debate on Pashtun issues, the Khyber
Society will foster cultural exchange and develop new generations of thinkers and
leaders. The KS will help meet the community’s challenges by providing
an open platform where Pahtuns can meet to discuss and generate solid and
realistic ideas.
The Khyber Society, being based on a democratic structure, will provide an
institutional role model for the community at large. It is worth noting however, that democratic ideals are not new to the Pashtuns. Their Jirga or tirbal council is one of the most ancient forms of democracy in the world.
By installing the Pashtun community with a greater understanding of Pashtunwali
and their historic heritage, coupled with a great love for knowledge,
freedom and respect for all living creatures, the Khyber Society will uplift the
Pashtuns, bringing them into the international community on the right foot, and
all the while sharing our indigenous culture with the world.
Purpose
Primarily oriented toward Pashtuns, Khyber Society exists to:
- Create opportunities to develop and enhance the leadership skills of individuals interested in personal advancement, public service and corporate volunteerism globally.
- Serve as a valued member of the Pashtun community through active participation and visible support of programs and activities that help to enhance the image and promote closer ties between non-Pashtun and Pashtun communities.
- Support charitable purposes providing information and assistance to Pashtuns, economically and educationally disadvantaged communities.
- Interact positively through community services with a Pashtunwali emphasis.
- Educate the public on the rich heritage, diverse cultures and valued traditions of Pashtuns.
- Support the mutual ideals and values of other Nations and Societies of the world.
- Encourage partnerships and alliances between Khyber Society and other non-profit organizations that promote philanthropy for the benefit of the entire Pashtun community.
